Your child has started his/her rotation in visual art.  I would like to pass 
on some general information about the classes.

During the quarter your child will be lead through a variety of aspects 
relevant to art.  As this is an exploration experience we will investigate 
art history, criticism, appreciation and production.  To do this 
successfully the students will participate in outside assignments, 
critiques, in class projects, or other as necessary.  

In the time allotted for this class we will focus on media and techniques 
including painting and printmaking.  Grading on studio assignments is done 
not by ability as much as effort, problem solving, demonstrating knowledge 
of criteria and craftsmanship. The specific criteria for individual projects 
and assignments will be explained to students beforehand. Assessment will 
track individual performance on the basis of Not Yet Meets, Meets or Exceeds 
the expectations presented.  Reflection and artist’s statements also play an 
important role in assessment.  Please help with your child’s success by 
showing a genuine interest in his/her progress in the following weeks.
